Guidance: Gap Analysis NEN/NTA 8059:2016 vs. ISO/TS 22002-5:2019 ISO 22000 is not recognized by GFSI, however a certification scheme that uses ISO 22000 as part of its requirements is. This certification is FSSC 22000, and it is recognized by GFSI. It is beneficial to choose a GFSI recognized certification scheme because many food manufacturers and retailers require certification to a recognized scheme.

It is currently applicable only to food processing companies, to catering, agriculture and manufacturers of food packaging. As new technical specifications are approved, this certification scope will be expanded. ISO 22000 is broad in scope. FSSC 22000 is recognized by GFSI. FSSC has a more limited scope.

I have recently switched positions from a tomato and cabbage processing facility to a grain processing facility that only deals in pet food. At my previous position were level 2 SQF certified. This position had a consultant suggest the grain processor get FSSC 22000 certified.
